Death

Some notable people have passed away this week, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. It sucks, it really does and nothing has frustrated me more than to hear people make jokes about Michael Jackson dying. There is nothing funny about that. I feel for all these families. But the fact of the matter is roughly 138240 people die a day. The death of these three public figures have had absolutely zero effect on my life. These 3 people were great at what they did and accomplished a lot in their lifetime.

Our media is going to go crazy over this for the next 3 weeks (unless something bigger happens), which is fine but I think as a society we have gone a little too crazy when we are following Michael Jackson’s dead body from his house to the morgue on National Television. If the death of these people has shown me anything it is the fact that our American culture is in a very sad and depraved state.

I remember when I was in Africa back in 2006 I came home all excited for what the Lord was doing over there. I would go to tell my friends and family about the trip they would stop me and say, “wait a second, have you heard what happened to Mel Gibson?!” I responded, “no. what happened?” “he got hammer and started making fun of Jewish people!” “Oh.” “yeah this is BIG news! I cannot believe you haven’t heard?!” “Oh im sorry we were in Africa where there is no TV and somehow the people still live their lives with more joy on their face than we do in America.” That was not my audible response, but you get my thoughts

I hope you can see the picture of what I’m trying to say here. Our focus, as a whole, is totally lost and totally wrong (and trust me I’m talking to myself here). So what can we do? We have got to begin continually praying for our culture. Individually we have got to be diligent with what the father has entrusted to us. I am overly concerned at what kind of America my unborn children are going to inherit. I know that a change and movement is going to have to start with YOU! (how is that for cliché?).

You can go ahead and judge me for this post. I’m fine with that. I see a problem and I don’t know the answer, but I know the solution is more of Christ and less of me.

I completely agree! The enemy has manifested himself into our society and has turned what should be focus on the Father to unimportant matters that have nothing to do with how we will spend enternity. Our generation has to be willing to die to themselves and live fully for the glory and satisfaction of the Father, allowing His message to be spread to a dying world.

Can't believe that I have been reading your blog for months and never knew you you were such good friends with my roommate.

Love your insights...the deep ones, the funny ones and the random ones.
