Ask me again and I'll tell ya the same

I have been having these conversation with a friend of mine, Megan. The conversations are stemming from theological questions. She asked me,
"So did all of the people who lived before Jesus who sinned go to hell... no forgiveness? like. if someone dies 1 second before Jesus did... hell."
Which is a legit question. A question that i have asked myself. The answer is no they didnt just go to hell because God had yet to send the Holy Spirit. They were under the law and because no one could perfectly satisfy the law's demands, the law brought awareness of human sin and our inadequacies (Romans 3:9-23; 7:7-14 ; Galatians 3:19-25) through animal sacrifice. Whereas once Christ came back he abolished the law so today we now present our bodies as a living sacrifice, Hebrews 10:1-17.

I don't know about most of you but I honestly think I'd be easier to just sacrifice a few cows than to offer my body daily (don't worry it's just a joke, anonymous who takes these post to seriously).

So then I asked her a question that I have yet to find an answer on...
"There is no sin in heaven right? so how did Lucifer ever become jealous of God because jealousy is a sin"
Guess what, she answered it...

I believe the Heaven of the past that Satan was in was one where you had the choice to obey or disobey GOD, similar in how we have a choice on earth. The new heaven mentioned in Revelation, this is where we've "endured to the end" and by GOD's grace for our damage already done (sin) we are now in Heaven (new Heaven) with Jesus forever. The old will then be passed away and the new will be without sin nor sorrow. So after God kicked Lucifer out, he made it impossible to sin in heaven.

Pretty crazy. This is just some of the stuff going through my mind. I enjoy theological debates and things like this so if you have a question I'd like to hear it.

Also I'd like to put this out there. This is a message from Matt Chandler (right-click on the link and select "Save Link As", to download). It singled handily changed the way that I see Christianity. It is the first part of a 6 part series. If you want the rest visit this website and look for The Cross under 2007.

*If you post the question "Can God make a rock too big for him to lift?" I will hunt you down and beat you with the mercy of the Lord.

This is a very good post! You have a deep understanding of theology!

On another note, I am in the process of writing a sociology paper in which I am examing differnet cultures and how they themselves accpet different cultures. I was inquiring as to whehter or not I could use your experience in Uganda as a main topic? I would really appriciate it and hope that you will allow this stranger from Augusta the oppurtunity!

Hey, first time poster to your blog or any blog for that matter. We share a few things in common; in that i stumbled upon this blog by googling my own name, and I also have been a missionary and hope to be again soon. Your explaination to how the people of the old testament are saved doesn't make much sense to me. Though i do NOT believe the many nations of the old testemant to be damned, i know that christ is the only way by which man can be saved. The law of moses did demand animal sacrafice, however by no means did the blood spilt by these beasts atone for their sins or provide the saving grace neccasary. It merely acted in a simlitude of the day in which the chirst should come and shed his blood for us. It is only through and in the atoning blood of christ that man can be saved. Christ also said that,"except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of god"(john 3:5). The lord cannot lie, all his words must be fulfilled, whether they are said in the old, the new, or even the modern days, all gods' words are retroactive. For he is the same yesterday, today, and tommorrow. These factors are what lead me to believe your explaination is left needing and inadequet. I do believe there is an answer that truely satisfies all gods words. Nevertheless i want to see if this actually works, since i've never posted on a blog before, i hope that we can pursue an uplifting conversation on the matter. let me know, thanks.

Kyle let first say wow you raised some great questions in my mind. of course i do not claim to know all the answers and i'm thankful someone stumbled upon the blog that actually has some valid feedback!

first that is too sweet that you were a missionary!where were you able to go?

secondly let me bounce some questions off of you and see what you think. We are saved by grace through faith, faith through Jesus Christ, right? (eph 2:8) So i believe that in the old testament they were saved on that same grace and faith in christ. they were saved through faith of christ who had YET to come and today we are saved through faith of christ who HAS come. They excerised that faith through animal sacrifice and to act as a similitude.
